# Reading small-town bus and rail information for Île-de-France

A train symbol on a regional map does not settle the last part of a journey. Around La Ferté-Alais, a useful practical question is whether the bus you need after the train runs as an ordinary departure or only after a reservation. Answering it requires more than finding a familiar route number.

This example follows the Val d'Essonne information trail, with particular attention to the 4306 service. It is not a region-wide timetable or a confirmed journey. The source checks reveal both useful distinctions and inconsistencies that a traveller should resolve before relying on a connection.

## Begin with the local route, then distinguish the service

The intercommunal authority's regular-lines page lists 4306 through Lardy, Bouray-sur-Juine, Itteville, Cerny, La Ferté-Alais and D'Huison-Longueville. It places a separate 4306 TàD timetable link directly below the regular service. The introduction says on-demand timetables follow the regular-line entries. [Val d'Essonne's line directory](https://valessonne.fr/pages/trouver-votre-ligne-reguliere)

That arrangement is significant: the line number alone is not enough to identify the conditions attached to a particular departure. TàD means transport à la demande, or demand-responsive transport. A listed stop and time do not remove a reservation requirement.

The linked journey-information pages did not expose usable timetable content in this check. That is an access limitation, not evidence that the service has stopped. A reader should follow the current link for the exact travel date rather than substitute a third-party summary or an older saved sheet.

Keep the local directory as a route-finding aid. It helps identify which service to investigate, but a list of towns is not a promise that every departure serves every stop or that a connection will wait.

## Read the dated territory document

The official TàD site's Essonne Sud Est page groups separate documents for several lines, including 4306. It directs readers to the relevant PDF for operating arrangements and journey information. [Essonne Sud Est service page](https://tad.iledefrance-mobilites.fr/essonne-sud-est/)

The linked 4306 document states a validity period of **24 August 2026 to 4 July 2027**. Its extracted text separates weekday and Saturday sections, with directions towards Orveau and towards Lardy's Gare de Bouray. It identifies the departures as reservation-only and includes Gare de La Ferté-Alais among the stops. [Dated 4306 TàD document](https://tad.iledefrance-mobilites.fr/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/4306_TaD.pdf)

The text was available, but the PDF's visual table could not be rendered in this check. No minute-by-minute connection is therefore reproduced here. The verified lesson is the need to separate direction, day category and reservation status—not a claim that a particular bus and train have been matched.

The Saturday sections also matter because the intercommunal introductory TàD page describes weekday off-peak operation. Do not assume that summary is a complete account of every service. Use the dated line-specific material and current booking response for the intended Saturday. The validity period's Sunday end date does not by itself show that the service runs on Sundays.

## A reservation deadline needs its own check

The Val d'Essonne TàD introduction says registration is needed and describes app, website and telephone reservation. It states a minimum lead time of one hour and thirty minutes. [Local TàD introduction](https://valessonne.fr/pages/transport-a-la-demande-idfm)

The regional TàD service explainer instead gives a general one-hour-before-departure window and warns that individual territories have their own operating arrangements. [Regional service explanation](https://tad.iledefrance-mobilites.fr/le-service-tad/)

Those statements should not be silently combined into a new rule. This article has not tested a booking or obtained a service-specific clarification. Confirm the applicable deadline for the actual service, and do not plan to arrive at the stop at the last minute simply because one general page describes a shorter window.

For your own note, separate the latest time to request the ride from the agreed pickup time. Neither is a train departure time. If the outward trip is possible but the return cannot be reserved, the day's plan is still incomplete.

## Registration, booking and ticket purchase are different

The July 2026 conditions say a customer account is required whichever booking channel is used, and that journey proposals depend on service availability. They also explicitly say that payment is not possible aboard the TàD vehicle and that a suitable ticket must be acquired before travelling. [Current service conditions](https://tad.iledefrance-mobilites.fr/conditions-dutilisation/)

That distinction matters because the TàD homepage still contains a lower-page statement suggesting ticket purchase aboard, alongside a different telephone number from its main booking instructions. The July conditions and main instructions identify 0800 10 20 20, while older-looking blocks retain 09 70 80 96 63. This check cannot establish whether both numbers still work. [TàD homepage](https://tad.iledefrance-mobilites.fr/)

Do not turn conflicting website blocks into a confident promise that cash will be accepted or a particular telephone line will answer. Follow the current service instructions and resolve the discrepancy before travel. No registration, call, payment or booking was performed for this guide.

A confirmed reservation is also not the same as possessing a valid travel ticket. Keep the reservation details and your ticket arrangements distinct. This article does not decide which fare product covers an individual traveller's complete bus-and-rail journey.

## Read the railway branch, not just the letter D

The municipality's access page presents La Ferté-Alais as being on RER D between Paris and Malesherbes and gives broad instructions from central Paris stations. It does not provide a dated itinerary. [Municipal access page](https://www.lafertealais.fr/votre-ville/plan-de-ville)

Transilien's RER D page explicitly places La Ferté Alais on the **Corbeil Essonnes–Malesherbes** branch. It separately directs travellers to current and planned disruption information and date-specific journey tools. [Transilien RER D](https://www.transilien.com/fr/page-lignes/ligne-d)

A shared line letter does not establish that every train runs through to the station you want. Check the actual train's destination, stopping pattern and any required change for your travel date. The municipal shorthand should not be treated as proof of a direct train from every listed Paris station.

This source check confirms the branch description, not a particular train's operation. No current departure, interchange duration or disruption-free trip has been established here. Leave those fields unanswered until the operator's dated journey information supplies them.

## Turn the research into one usable journey note

Record the travel date, exact boarding and arrival stops, direction, day category, service type and reservation status. Then add the train details separately. Include enough time to move between the bus stop and the correct platform, based on an actual site check or current station information rather than an assumed instant transfer.

Keep the return trip beside the outward trip. A bus usable on the way to a museum may not have a suitable return after closing. If an appointment or opening time matters, compare it with the confirmed transport arrangement rather than treating the published service span as continuous availability.

The result should be a small set of established facts and clearly marked gaps. Here, the local directory, current dated TàD document and railway branch description establish a useful starting point. Booking deadlines, conflicting contact or purchase statements and a real bus–train connection still require confirmation. Recognising those limits is part of reading transport information well, not a reason to fill them with guesses.
