# Reading small-town bus and rail information for Normandy

You want to travel between Port-en-Bessin-Huppain and a train at Bayeux. The place names appear on transport pages, so the journey can look straightforward. The real task is narrower: identify a usable coach service for the actual date, at the actual stop, then check the train and the return separately.

This guide works through that information problem on NOMAD line 120. It is not a timetable for all Normandy or a confirmed itinerary. The useful findings include a dated school-holiday distinction and a stop-removal notice that conflicts with a general stop list. Those details matter more than the simple statement that a bus exists.

## Use the municipality to find the transport authority

Port-en-Bessin-Huppain's municipal access page directs rail users towards Bayeux and describes an onward taxi or seasonal bus connection. It links to NOMAD for current coach information. Its approximate car and taxi journey times are not coach running times. [Municipal access page](https://www.portenbessin-huppain.fr/mon-sejour/informations-utiles/comment-venir-a-port-en-bessin-huppain/)

Treat this as an orientation page: it identifies the interchange and where to look next. It does not select your stop, establish a train connection or guarantee a return after an evening event. Write down the actual destination in Port-en-Bessin rather than assuming every stop bearing the commune's name is equally suitable.

## A line page can contain both a current alert and an older list

NOMAD's line 120 page describes Grandcamp-Maisy–Bayeux service through Port-en-Bessin, Monday–Saturday except public holidays, with some services restricted to school periods. It identifies possible train connections at Bayeux, not guaranteed connections to every train. The page links the timetable beginning 1 September 2026. [NOMAD line 120](https://nomad.normandie.fr/lignes-de-cars/ligne-120)

A dated notice says the Sully stop ceased to be served from 28 February 2026. Yet Sully still appears in the general stop list farther down the same page. Do not treat that list as evidence that the removed stop remains usable. The current notice is the explicit warning; anyone whose plan depends on that stop needs current operator confirmation, not a silent choice between conflicting page elements.

The page also limits its BYBUS-ticket statement to journeys within the Bayeux urban transport area. That statement should not be extended to an entire Bayeux–Port-en-Bessin journey merely because line 120 appears in both contexts. A route number and a ticket's geographical validity are different checks.

## Classify the day before reading a departure column

The linked PDF states validity from 1 September 2026 through 3 July 2027. Its text defines PS as school period and PVS as short school holidays, and lists Toussaint holidays from 18 October through 1 November 2026. It also says services marked B do not run during Toussaint and spring holidays. [Dated line 120 timetable](https://nomad.normandie.fr/sites/default/files/2026-08/120_septembre_2026.pdf)

For a worked reading example, Monday 26 October 2026 falls inside that listed Toussaint period. A school-period-only column cannot simply be used because it is a Monday; a B-marked service must also be excluded under its note. This establishes a calendar-filtering rule, not a complete departure choice.

Only the PDF's extracted text was available for this check; its table layout and footnote placement were not visually verified. Consequently no exact coach time is transcribed or paired with a train here. Use the original table to follow one eligible column through the chosen origin and destination, and retain any service-specific footnote. A dash is not a missing number to copy from the next column.

## Check the station without confusing opening hours with departures

SNCF's Bayeux station page gives the address as Place de la gare and separates building hours from ticket-office hours. It also links to assistance information and timetable/work notices. At this check, the next-departures section remained in a loading state, so it supplied no verified live departure. [Bayeux station information](https://www.ter.sncf.com/normandie/se-deplacer/gares/bayeux-87444067)

A station being open does not mean a train to your destination departs soon afterwards. Conversely, a ticket-office break is not proof that trains stop running. Establish the dated rail service, any works substitution and the transfer between the actual coach stop and platform. If you need assistance, check the relevant arrangement rather than treating a general accessibility link as a reservation.

The NOMAD page's phrase “possible connections” is a lead, not a minimum-transfer-time promise. No station walk, platform change, delay margin or assisted transfer was tested for this guide.

## Calculate the fare only after identifying the journey

NOMAD's fare page distinguishes its fare calculator from its itinerary planner. It says the displayed fares are indicative, with the selling terminal's price controlling. It also describes particular conditions for coach-to-coach transfers and notes that some urban-area journeys have their own fares. [NOMAD fares and purchasing information](https://nomad.normandie.fr/tarifs-et-achats)

No fare calculation or purchase was made here. Do not infer that a coach-to-coach transfer rule includes a rail journey, or that a price returned for two commune names proves a practical service exists between them at the desired time. Timetable feasibility and ticket validity must both be established.

Keep the outward and return as separate entries. A return may use another stop, another service-day rule or another fare arrangement. Buying a ticket cannot fill a gap in an unverified timetable.

## What this check establishes—and what it leaves open

The official municipal and operator pages establish a transport-information route through Bayeux and line 120. The dated PDF establishes which school-holiday labels need attention for the example date. The operator's Sully notice prevents an unsafe assumption from an older-looking stop list. These are useful verified findings even though the whole journey remains unfinished.

Before travelling, complete a short record: date, origin stop, destination stop, direction, eligible timetable column, footnotes, rail departure, transfer needs and independently checked return. Keep the fare confirmation alongside it rather than treating either as proof of the other.

If a step remains unresolved, name it precisely. “The correct holiday category is identified, but no departure column and rail connection have been verified” is more useful than either “no transport exists” or “the connection works.” It tells you exactly which check comes next without inventing certainty.

*Municipal, operator and railway pages read on 26 October 2026. No travel, booking, ticket purchase, live train departure, visually checked timetable or guaranteed connection is claimed.*
