Village fairs, weekly markets and civic calendars across Normandy
A scallop can be a product for sale, an ingredient in a cookery session or the focus of a harbour celebration. Port-en-Bessin-Huppain's announcement for Le Goût du Large, 7–8 November 2026, puts those activities beside music, films and maritime demonstrations. The festival makes several kinds of knowledge public—not just a local food available to buy. Municipal festival announcement
Ger supplies a contrasting ceramic calendar, while Vimoutiers shows another local rhythm: the publication of municipal records. Dates connect all three, but a festival edition, an ordinary weekly market and a council document describe different kinds of participation.
Port-en-Bessin: separate an ordinary market from a fishing celebration
Ports du Calvados lists a Sunday-morning market on Quai P. Oblet and Avenue du Général de Gaulle. It separately gives fish-market hours with Sunday-afternoon and Monday exceptions, subject to a July–August qualification. The two entries should not be collapsed into a claim that every kind of market operates all day on Sunday. Port operator's market information
Le Goût du Large brings the Musique sous les Embruns festival into that working-port setting. On the 26 October check, its November programme is still an announcement, not an event this guide has attended. Municipal festival page
A seafood celebration can make working knowledge public through demonstrations and talks. That does not mean every activity is free, continuously available or open without a separate booking. The event's overall date is only the beginning of the practical check.
Follow the programme for the right edition
The festival page's programme link currently leads to a 2026 PDF. Its extracted text separates Saturday 7 November from Sunday 8 November and distinguishes demonstrations from actual sales, concerts and other activities. It also labels a maritime rescue demonstration as subject to operational obligations. Linked 2026 programme
This guide read the extracted programme text, not a visually checked page layout. It therefore does not reproduce a timed itinerary, ticket-price table or guaranteed activity sequence. Check the current programme and organiser's arrangements for the particular activity. A planned demonstration is not a promise that operational services will always be available to perform it.
Ger: a pottery festival is dated evidence of a living craft setting
The Manche department's 2026 museum press dossier advertised Ger's pottery festival for 29–30 August 2026. It describes the ceramic museum's programme of workshops, visits and events and identifies the Association des Amis de la Poterie de Ger and Terres d'échange as partners. Those dates are already past at the time of this guide. The dossier is an announcement, not independent evidence that every planned activity took place. Departmental dossier, page 7
The useful cultural distinction is between a collection preserving older production and a programme involving present-day makers. Neither should erase the other. A demonstration, a maker's stall and an archaeological or historical interpretation have different purposes; compare them without assuming they provide identical evidence about past practice.
The museum's FAQ describes a ceramic workshop occupied by a young business owner for a 23-month period and says access is possible much of the time during museum opening. It also describes occasional kiln firings and trainees. These are qualified descriptions, not a promise that a potter will be demonstrating on any particular visit. Museum FAQ
Vimoutiers: meeting date and publication date are different fields
The municipal administrative-documents index lists the minutes of 17 June 2026 as published on 24 September 2026. It also lists the deliberations of 23 September 2026, published the following day. These are different document types and different meeting dates sharing a publication date. Municipal administrative index
An index is a route to documents, not evidence that you have read the full decisions. The linked September entry's title and publication timestamp were checked; its attached act was not examined. No particular measure is described here as adopted merely because it appears in an agenda or document title. September deliberations entry
Beware an undated “next meeting” notice
Another Vimoutiers agenda page calls a meeting “next” and gives Wednesday 10 December, with no year in the visible date text. Its topics refer to 2026 arrangements and work carried out in 2025. That does not establish it as the next meeting in late October 2026. In particular, 10 December 2026 is a Thursday, not a Wednesday. Meeting notice
What these calendars reveal
A harbour turns work into a public programme; a pottery centre brings current makers alongside older collections; a town publishes records after its meetings. The calendar is revealing precisely because these are different activities, not interchangeable village festivities.
