Reading small-town bus and rail information for Occitanie
Revel's old station is now a place for a toy library and youth services, according to the municipality. The building still belongs to the town's transport history, but it is not evidence that a passenger train will take you there today. For a journey involving rail, the municipal page points instead towards nearby stations and an onward journey, for example by bus. Revel municipal transport page
Revel makes a useful case study because three separate questions easily become blurred: how to reach the town, which stop serves the lake at Saint-Ferréol, and whether a summer offer still applies. The official pages answer parts of those questions, but they should not be joined into a confirmed itinerary without checking the travel date.
A nearby station is not a through journey
The municipality lists Castres, Castelnaudary and Toulouse as nearby rail options, giving approximate distances of 20, 25 and 60 kilometres respectively. Distance is not a connection time. That list does not say which train meets which coach or whether the last return service will still be available after a visit.
Start with a precise question: “For my date, what connects my arrival station to the Revel stop I need?” Keep the rail leg and coach leg separate until their actual arrival and departure points are known. A railway station, a coach station and a stop called after a street or public building are not interchangeable simply because they share a town name.
The route number tells only part of the story
The liO timetable directory lists 356 via Caraman and 357 via Fourquevaux between Revel and Toulouse. It links sheets labelled valid from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027 for these two routes. That gives two distinct corridors, not one generic “Toulouse bus”. Official timetable directory
The 356 sheet names Revel's Claude Nougaro stop and Toulouse's Gare Routière, and includes other stops around Saint-Ferréol. It separates directions and distinguishes school periods, short school holidays and summer. Its notes include services that run from 1 June to 30 September and others that do not run in that interval. Those conditions must stay attached to their columns; a time copied away from its header can become misleading. Line 356 sheet
For this reason, no isolated departure time is reproduced here. Read the direction and calendar conditions together, then check the current journey planner and service notices for the intended day. The sheet itself directs readers to the liO application for up-to-date information. Its wheelchair-access statement is also conditional on using stops identified as accessible; a vehicle statement is not a promise about every boarding point or the route from that stop to a destination.
The one-euro lake offer had an end date
liO's announcement dated 1 July 2026 advertises a summer Revel–Saint-Ferréol service using lines 356, 357, 414, 761 and 767. It describes up to fourteen daily departures and a one-euro return ticket valid for one day. This is a combined summer offer, not a claim that each route has fourteen departures. liO summer announcement
The linked flyer supplies the crucial interval: 4 July–31 August 2026. Its table distinguishes Revel Claude Nougaro, Saint-Ferréol stops and Vaudreuille Musée. At the October source check for this article, that advertised interval had ended. Neither the fare nor the summer frequency should be carried forward into an autumn plan merely because the announcement is still online. Dated summer flyer
A reader looking for the museum rather than the lake should preserve the exact stop name in the enquiry. A destination label covering an area does not establish the walking distance, terrain or access between every stop and every attraction.
When the directory and its attachment disagree
There is a concrete reason not to trust a download label alone. The directory labels its Revel–Castelnaudary 414 attachment as valid from 5 January to 31 December 2026. The linked PDF's extracted validity text instead reads 1 September 2025–31 August 2026. This discrepancy was unresolved at the source check. Directory · Linked 414 document
The document does contain a Castelnaudary Gare SNCF row, so it is a relevant lead for the rail-and-coach question. But a relevant route is not a verified departure. Ask liO which current timetable applies rather than selecting whichever validity period suits the planned trip. No current 414 departure or train connection is confirmed here.
Revel's example rewards three small acts of precision: name the station and the coach stop separately, carry the calendar conditions with the time, and keep a seasonal fare within its stated dates. That is more useful than either assuming the town has no public transport or treating every official-looking timetable as current.
